Sacred Heart Cemetery The place chosen for the cemetery was purchased from Math Freund in February 1901. It was blessed by Rev. J. Naebers who at that time had charge of the Meyer congregation. The first funeral was that of a little child, Stella Meyer, daughter of Joseph C. Meyer, in the early part of February 1901. Later in the same year a beautiful little chapel built entirely of native stone, was erected and presented to the congregation by the pastor. The chapel was dedicated to our Lady of Dolors.

The pretty chapel, whose sublime and solemn stillness invites the pious soul to prayer, is a place frequently with the statue of the Pieta. The side walls are decorated with two stained-glass windows showing mourning angels holding the instruments of the passion, thus harmonizing the entire attitude of the place. The congregation has also erected an ornamental fence around the cemetery. Sacred Heart Cemetery

Sacred Heart Cemetery In the spring of 2000, the cemetery fence was repainted and the pillars were replaced. The chapel also needed some repairs. Alex Theobald, a boy scout in the Sacred Heart Parish, chose the chapel repairs as his Eagle project for Boy Scouts. Extensive work was done to the inside and outside of the chapel in the Spring of 2000.
