SCHOOL CLOSING MONDAY - Monday, May 27, 1968, marks the end of an era. On September 9, 1901, the Sacred Heart School opened with 76 pupils in attendance. On Monday, May 27, 1968, our school of 88 pupils closes its doors for the last time. "The Sacred Heart Church Golden Jubilee Book" (p. 10) says, "The early settlers of Meyer understood that a Christian education alone can afford an adequate training, and that the God-fearing citizen would be most beneficial to his country." It is hoped that this same burning spirit of loyalty to Catholic education prevails among the modern-day citizens of this community. Like their pioneer forefathers, the 1968 parents of our children will continue to give Catholic education "first place" in the lives of their children by making the sacrifice to send them in the fall to our newly-consolidated Catholic grade school in Visitation, Stacyville. Our Faith is preserved by sacrifices and not convenience. Let's be sure to continue to share with all our grade school children their most precious heritage, Catholic education.
