Windows of the Altar
The First Window on the west side in the sanctuary pictures Abel offering sacrifice to God. Adam and Eve had two sons. Cain was a farmer, Abel was a shepherd. Both offered sacrifice to God. God was pleased with Abel and rejected Cain. Cain grew angry and killed his brother. God sentenced Cain to a life of wanderer. The window was donated by the Fritz Kramer family. |
The Second Window on the west side in the sanctuary shows God and a rainbow, a covenant sign. God comes down as a voice to tell Noah of the great flood. He is then told of how he is to build the ark. |
The Third Window on the northeast side of the sanctuary pictures Melchizedek, King of Salem, offering bread and wine. To Christian readers the mention of bread and wine suggests the Eucharist, and in fact some historians have attempted to find in Melchizedek's bread and wine a prefigurement of the Eucharist. |

The Fourth Window on the east side in the sanctuary depicts Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son, Isaac. An angel of the Lord tells Abraham to take Isaac, his only son, to a mountain and kill him as a sacrifice to God. Abraham has so much faith he does everything, but the Lord stops him just before he kills Isaac. God provides a lamb instead. This window was donated by the John Klapperich family. |
